What is Tempered Glass?

Tempered glass, also known as toughened glass, is a type of safety glass that is strengthened by thermal or chemical treatments, making it up to five times stronger than traditional annealed glass which makes it the most popular choice in glass products.

Tempered glass is used in various products, especially in the home. For example, tempered glass is used in walk-in glass shower designs to make them sturdy and less likely to shatter. In addition, tempered glass will break into smaller, duller pieces than annealed glass, making it the safer choice. Another great reason to use tempered glass is that the tempering process makes it more scratch-resistant than traditional glass.

Tempered glass can also be found around the home in objects such as stovetops and ovens where they must withstand high heat and in businesses that have glass elevators and balconies to help reduce the risk of injuries.
